I really enjoyed today’s workshop, and found it very helpful.
When you finish the first draft of your book, you think it is a great achievement, but it is only the start of the journey to publishing. Your workshop is very important in filling that gap, and providing the help and support needed to progress.
It was good to have written information to take away, as well as having the opportunity to discuss our individual books, difficulties, and issues. The written information was clear, concise, and comprehensive. I have no doubt I will be referring to it in the days to come.
Thank you so much again for such a helpful and eye opening day on Saturday.Your expertise in the publishing and literary field has proven extremely useful in my writing these past few days and I know I will consistently take your guidance with me as I continue the writing process.

I was invited to appear at the Malta Book Festival, along with Author John Boyne. It was a week of horrendous weather in Malta with hurricane winds that caused huge disruption to the island with transport cancelled and many business closed. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience and while I was there I met with Miller Distributors who made my books available in the bookshops in Malta. I also met Italian Publisher, Giuseppe Guarino from Infinity Books who offered to publish my next novel ‘Under an Irish Sky’. All in all a very successful trip.
I was honoured to present my novel The Azure Window to the President of Din l-Art Helwa (THe National Trust of Malta) as well as the original cover painting by my father, Artist Nicholas Kearns – which now stands pride of place in their front window in Valletta.
There is a story around how my second novel ‘The Azure Window’ actually went to Number 1 on Amazon, before my first one ‘Under a Maltese Sky’. On 8th March 2017 the iconic Azure Window at Gozo, Malta, collapsed into the sea. The night before I had been feeling quite disillusioned about my novel, experiencing the infamous writer’s block and generally doubting my work. I prayed that I would get some inspiration or a ‘sign’ to keep going with it. The next morning, my brother text me to say if I knew that the Azure Window in Malta had collapsed. My first thought was, ‘Thanks God, that’ll do!’ In the weeks beforehand the Malta Times Newspaper had interviewed me about my work in progress, that is, The Azure Window novel and this article began to be commented on online. Some people said how it was ‘coincidental’ that the Azure Window collapsed not long after I had visited it. (I had been there just weeks before). They made comments on how I was from a border town in Ireland and may have links to terrorist groups who blew up the arch, for book publicity. Astounded by this, I began to reply to these absurd messages, until realizing that I was simply adding fuel to the fire.
However, this furore gained an interest in my novel, which was published very soon afterwards and immediately went to Number 1 on Amazon’s historical fiction list. My first novel soon followed suit. On a publicity trip to Malta and Gozo months later, I presented my novel to the library in Gozo, to Simon Wallace who looks after the Dwejra Tower on Gozo. I also presented the original painting of the book cover to Din l-Art Helwa, presidential office in Valletta, Malta. On my recent trip to Malta, I visited the presidential office with my Maltese publisher, Giuseppe Guarino, and was happy to see both the painting and book are still pride of the place in the front window. My father, who painted the book cover, gets a great buzz from knowing his painting has such an esteemed home.
I often give talks on my writing experience at different events. I really enjoy doing this and sharing my writing tips and meeting new people.
I was delighted to have an article written about my novels in this Maltese magazine.
